Skillwood - Public opening of prototype

Intro

This is my fourth gamedev binge, I have these one every two years. And this time I've been already making this game for 1.5 month. Unlike previous ones I started to develop a game with bigger scope concept. Maybe it's because of being inspired by more of PC indie games then mobile games like previous times. That's why my game relies on keyboard controls so heavily right of the box.

My first goal is to keep myself motivated as long as I can. That's not my first rodeo, so I know myself and how this things usually end. And to keep myself motivated I needed some sort of public opening, even though the game still lacks gameplays and can be checked in 5-10 minutes completely. So the more I keep doing the game - the more chance that it actually became something decent and playable. And that's something I hope to achieve.

About the game

The concept is topdown survival-like game with accent on foraging recources and upgrading your skills in it. Gameplay revolves around skill-minigame of resource hitting and stamina management. Campfire will help to keep player in heat and restore stamina more faster, so upgrade it as soon as you can.

First big things priorities

  • making skills levels matter (decrease stamina consumptions, increase hit power)
  • bridge building to place with limestone deposit
  • possibility to save game
  • sound effects and background music
  • + fireplace sprites for more levels - not a big thing, but needs to be done as soon as possible

Mid term priorities/Development directions

  • new tree tiers with their resources (hardwood, ironwood)
  • new mineral tiers after limestone (basalt, obsidian)
  • instruments crafting (pickaxe, axe)
  • new buildings

What I'm trying to avoid

  • any combat mechanics. I want to keep game peaceful
  • farming
  • cooking (maximum I allow myself to plan - berry bushes that helps to regen stamina)

I hope there's someone out there who'll find something they'd like in my game, desite the little I have to offer for know. In the end, the more feedback I recieve, the more chanced of me doing this game for longer. And consistency is the best fuel for game becoming better.
